Sr. Software Engineer – Sites & Services

Overview

Senior individual contributor on the Box Tops for Education (BTFE) engineering team, designing, building and operating scalable, reliable and maintainable backend services and APIs for the BTFE platform. No direct reports or people-management responsibility.

What you'll do

• Own end-to-end design, development and delivery of complex BTFE platform modules and features following Agile/Scrum practices
• Apply coding, testing and design standards for .NET Core, API and microservices development to ensure scalability, maintainability and performance
• Provide hands-on production support, including monitoring and troubleshooting of Tidal-scheduled batch jobs, incident response and root cause analysis for critical issues
• Actively participate in sprint planning, requirement gathering, scope definition and technical planning alongside the Delivery Manager and team
• Provide reliable technical estimates for assigned work and flag effort or resourcing risks
• Participate in code and design reviews to ensure technical consistency and best practices
• Contribute to architectural discussions on microservices decomposition and API design, surfacing design gaps and proposing solutions
• Perform performance tuning, query optimization (SQL Server/PostgreSQL) and system-level analysis on owned components
• Stay current with emerging technologies across the .NET and microservices ecosystem and apply them to own work
• Share technical knowledge and informal guidance with peers through code reviews, pairing and discussions
• Contribute to internal initiatives such as architecture reviews and engineering talks
• Contribute to high-level estimations and technical plans for assigned features and modules
• Design and build complex, scalable and secure technical solutions using .NET Core, API and microservices
• Act as a subject-matter resource on BTFE's technical implementation when consulted by stakeholders
• Contribute hands-on to technology direction and stack decisions within the team, including execution of the SQL Server to PostgreSQL migration

What you'll need

• Independently plan and manage own workload across complex tasks, contributing input to sprint and project planning in an Agile environment
• Personally delivered multiple medium-to-large project components or key enterprise-level features with full accountability for quality and timely delivery
• Follow and help refine IT technical standards, consistently applying best practices in own work
• Expert-level knowledge of enterprise architecture, microservices design patterns and technical toolsets, applied to build resilient, scalable solutions
• Strong hands-on experience with .NET Core and Web API development for building and maintaining enterprise-grade backend services
• Solid working knowledge of relational databases, including SQL Server and PostgreSQL, with the ability to design schemas, write performant queries and support database migrations
• Experience with microservices architecture, including service decomposition, inter-service communication and deployment patterns
• Practical experience working within Agile/Scrum delivery teams, including sprint planning, estimation and iterative delivery
• Hands-on experience with Tidal (or similar enterprise job scheduling tools) for designing, monitoring and troubleshooting batch/scheduled jobs
• Design and govern complex third-party integrations, including with SaaS platforms, with a strong focus on performance, scalability and security
• Share knowledge and provide technical guidance to peers informally, without formal mentorship or supervisory accountability
• Grow by deepening and sharing technical expertise; deliver impactful, high-quality technical results independently
• Collaborate and align effectively with cross-functional partners

Nice to have

• Prior experience on the BTFE (Box Tops for Education) platform or similar education/loyalty rewards platforms
• Experience supporting a SQL Server to PostgreSQL migration
• Advanced experience with enterprise-grade API and microservices platforms, with a track record of delivering scalable backend solutions at scale
