Staff Database Engineer

Overview

Manage, monitor and maintain assigned databases and their operating system, CPU, memory and storage resources, ensuring availability and performance meet TriNet's expectations, and oversee database operations for TriNet's hosting production and non-production environments.

What you'll do

• Provide engineering, installation, configuration, maintenance and support in a 24/7 environment.
• Monitor designated applications and take corrective action to prevent or minimize system downtime.
• Build, create, refresh and move databases as required.
• Configure solutions for High Availability, load balancing and fail over support.
• Secure all databases by developing system access, monitoring, control, and evaluation.
• Install and upgrade database software and patches for Oracle, MySQL and PostgreSQL databases.
• Automate and adopt DevOps practices using Terraform and CloudFormation.
• Apply engineering knowledge and database observability tools and processes to identify, prevent or reduce the frequency or likelihood of potential issues.
• Work closely with software engineering teams to review application design and code frequently to ensure standards are adhered to.
• Work closely with database vendors to seek support for technical issues.
• Provide technical solutions and escalated support for highly complex technical issues.
• Develop and analyze highly complex system standards, thresholds, and recommendations to maximize system performance.
• Maintain documentation on the physical and logical layout and assets of technical architectures to maximize availability and reliability.
• Implement changes into production environments to support change management and release scheduling.
• Perform other projects and responsibilities as may be added at the manager's discretion, and other duties as assigned.
• Comply with all policies and standards.

What you'll need

• Typically 10+ years of relevant experience.
• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
• Strong knowledge of AWS services, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) services, Terraform, GitHub and GitLab.
• Strong knowledge of AWS services including EC2, Lambda, S3, RDS, Aurora, API Gateway, SNS and DMS.
• Strong experience with data migration tools such as GoldenGate, DMS and Fivetran.
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent teamwork.
• Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management, both verbally and in writing.
• Strong working knowledge of Oracle Support processes for technical request resolution.
• Strong Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office skills.
• Ability to coordinate with multiple IT and business stakeholders.
• Ability to efficiently work on multiple complex projects or assignments concurrently.
• Ability to think logically and analytically.
• Knowledge of Privileged Access Management tools such as BeyondTrust and SailPoint.

Nice to have

• Deep understanding of AWS database services, particularly Amazon RDS and Amazon Aurora.
• Experience with HR services industry.
• Strong ITIL principles.
• AWS certifications (Solutions Architect Associate/Professional).
• Experience with microservices and serverless architecture.
• Exposure to monitoring and logging tools.
