Staff Engineer

Overview

As a Back-End Staff Engineer or Architect, you will build user experiences and scalable, performance-oriented back-end features using Java and modern back-end technologies for an Agentic Process Automation platform. You will report to the Director of Engineering and work with cross-functional teams to deliver industry-leading features.

What you'll do

• Develop and maintain high-quality, scalable, and performance-oriented features using modern back-end technologies.
• Deliver software and systems that support short- and long-term objectives.
• Build prototypes to explore new scenarios and optimize existing solutions.
• Work with stakeholders to perform root-cause analysis and determine solution approaches.
• Review designs and code, and approve solution approaches.
• Work independently on projects in a self-directed and mature manner.
• Provide career guidance and mentoring for team members and assist the manager with reviews.
• Translate requirements into technical solutions and seamless user experiences.
• Work with Product Management, UX, Backend Engineers, SDET, and Support organizations to deliver features.
• Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code following back-end development best practices.
• Conduct code reviews to ensure quality and consistency.
• Drive adoption of new tools, frameworks, and methodologies to improve development efficiency and code performance.
• Multitask to provide needed input efficiently on development activities.
• Share knowledge across teams to foster learning and improvement.

What you'll need

• 10+ years of professional experience in back-end development, with a strong portfolio of work.
• Experience in the development and architecture of cloud applications and infrastructure.
• Strong oral and written communication, with the ability to adapt to the targeted audience.
• Excellent troubleshooting and debugging abilities for web applications and the ability to adhere to agreed-upon timelines.
• Strong working knowledge of core Java, JEE, JSON, and REST APIs such as JAX-RS, Spring, and Spark Java.
• Hands-on experience with Log4j logging and unit testing using JUnit and TestNG with mocking frameworks such as Mockito and EasyMock, and RestAssured.
• Experience working with enterprise applications using Spring and Hibernate.
• Experience working with SQL queries and database servers such as MSSQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, and CDB.
• Experience working with version control systems such as GIT and SVN, and build tools such as Gradle and Maven, with knowledge of continuous integration and delivery.
• Good command of data structures, especially XML and JSON operations and processing technologies.
• Good knowledge of threading, socket programming, and IPC.
• Hands-on knowledge of OOP, design patterns, TDD, IoC, DI, and serialization/de-serialization.
• MCA, B.E., or M.TECH, equivalent or more with relevant experience.

Nice to have

• 8+ years’ experience in designing software in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience architecting microservices and scalable cloud apps.
• Experience holistically catching and fixing memory leaks and performance tuning.
• Good experience with open-source technology.
• SCM: GIT, SVN, NuGet, and Nexus.
• Cloud: NoSQL, Big Data, Azure Cloud, and Amazon Cloud.
• Web: MVC, Web API, JavaScript, HTML, AJAX, CSS, JQuery, HTTP, HTTPS, XSLT, Spring Boot, and Netflix OSS.
• Understanding how to write code with the help of AI.
• Experience with RPA platforms or automation tools and APA.
• Familiarity with frontend technologies.
• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes.
• Experience with testing frameworks such as Playwright and Cypress.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills with cross-functional teams including Product Management, UX, Backend Engineering, QA, and Support.
• Technical mentorship and leadership experience fostering knowledge-sharing and continuous improvement.
• Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills for breaking down complex challenges and delivering efficient, scalable solutions.
• Adaptability and eagerness to learn new tools, frameworks, and technologies.
• Attention to detail and quality focus, including clean, maintainable code and compliance with performance, accessibility, and design standards.
