Staff+ Site Reliability Engineer, Safeguards ML Infra

Overview

Staff+ Site Reliability Engineer for Safeguards ML Infra, responsible for operating the production infrastructure behind Claude’s safety systems and ensuring safeguards are safely deployed for model launches.

What you'll do

• Stand up, configure, and verify safeguards for each new model release.
• Serve as the safeguards point of contact during release windows.
• Deploy new safety classifiers off-cycle as they ship, including canarying and post-deploy validation.
• Verify safeguards are provably live on the correct models across deployment platforms and detect configuration drift.
• Convert launch runbooks and manual checks into continuous validation and a repeatable pipeline.
• Maintain a safeguards registry with deployment provenance details.
• Participate in on-call/operational-duty rotations for incidents and time-sensitive launches.

What you'll need

• Owned production change management at scale, including deploy/config management systems and rollout safety.
• Experience deciding what “verified” means for high-stakes releases.
• Meaningful on-call experience, including incident response and postmortem-driven improvements.
• Hands-on experience deploying and operating cloud platforms at scale (AWS, GCP).
• Proficiency in Python (Rust experience is a plus).

Details

• Hybrid work policy: in one of the offices at least 25% of the time.
• Annual compensation range: $405,000–$485,000 USD.
• Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent combination of education/training/experience).
