Staff Software Developer

Overview

Staff Software Developer on the Contextualized Understanding (CU) Mission Team, building the knowledge graph and AI agents that give Loopio a deep understanding of each customer's business, plus the evaluation framework that keeps answers accurate and trustworthy.

What you'll do

• Lead the design and end-to-end delivery of complex features for Loopio's web platform, from architecture through to production.
• Design and ship reusable frameworks and shared libraries that raise the bar for how every team builds.
• Drive architectural decisions and system-level thinking, influencing design and execution across teams.
• Build tooling and safeguards that prevent bugs before they reach customers.
• Contribute to the AI roadmap by evaluating third-party models, establishing patterns for agentic workflows and knowledge-graph-grounded retrieval, and defining technical and evaluation guidelines for AI-powered features.
• Drive technical design discussions and facilitate technical decision-making, driving consensus in ambiguous situations.
• Partner closely with the ML team to design, integrate, and productionise AI agents and knowledge-graph capabilities, turning research prototypes into reliable, well-evaluated features.
• Engage directly with customers to gather detailed feedback, and collaborate with Product Managers and Product Designers in an agile environment.
• Mentor and coach other engineers through technical guidance, design reviews, and code reviews.

What you'll need

• Still hands-on: ship production code every week while setting technical direction.
• 8+ years of professional software development experience, with a proven track record of designing and delivering complex software systems at scale.
• Deep experience leading architectural discussions, influencing cross-team technical decisions, and driving consensus in ambiguous situations.
• Strong backend/API experience in Python, Java or PHP, including designing versioned, well-documented APIs consumed by multiple teams and services, building for scale and reliability, and integrating with third-party systems.
• Hands-on experience building and operating cloud infrastructure such as AWS or Azure.
• Frontend development experience with a solid understanding of React and JavaScript.
• Strong understanding of database design and relational databases such as MySQL.
• Exposure to AI technologies, particularly LLMs (e.g. OpenAI, Claude), embeddings, or natural language processing.
• Experience mentoring other engineers through coaching, design reviews, and code reviews.
• A growing passion for driving processes and improving software development productivity for your team.

Nice to have

• Prior experience as a technical lead.
• Familiarity with integrating modern AI APIs.
• TypeScript or Python.
• Microservices and event-driven architecture.
• Search and retrieval systems (semantic search, RAG).
• Graph databases and knowledge-graph modelling.
• Agent frameworks and tool-calling patterns.
• Experience evaluating and monitoring LLM-based features.

Details

• Remote-first role in India, working 11:00am to 7:30pm IST, with occasional evening calls to overlap with North American colleagues and customers.
• Collaboration across Canada, the UK, and India.
• Part of the India/UK hub; India HQ in Ahmedabad.
