Overview
Staff+ Software Engineer for Anthropic’s Capacity Engineering team, building production systems for planning, measuring, and maximizing utilization across a multi-cloud infrastructure fleet.
What you'll do
- Build the planning and allocation stack for leadership, teams, and the scheduler.
- Develop efficiency programs (stranding and rightsizing, unused capacity recovery, job-level utilization).
- Establish per-config utilization baselines and work with system-owning teams to close gaps.
- Own attribution and forecasting by reconciling CSP billing exports with telemetry and internal systems.
- Build data platform pipelines that ingest occupancy, utilization, and cost into BigQuery with completeness/latency SLOs and gap detection.
- Operate Kubernetes-native systems at scale for collection agents, workload labeling, and scheduling behavior impacting usable capacity.
- Treat outputs as product work by defining schema contracts and supporting consumers from engineering to finance leadership, including on-call and SLOs.
What you'll need
- Build and operate production systems.
- Hands-on engineering with a devops flavor.
- Production-quality Python and SQL (BigQuery SQL used in the presentation layer).
- Deep experience with at least one major cloud provider’s operations (AWS, Google Cloud, or Microsoft Azure).
- Observability tooling experience including Prometheus, PromQL, and Grafana (including recording rules and monitoring).
- Ability to gather requirements and work across boundaries in an ambiguous environment with limited direction.
Details
- Annual compensation range: $320,000–$485,000 USD.
- Location-based hybrid policy: staff expected in an office at least 25% of the time (some roles may require more).
- Visa sponsorship is available for some roles.
- Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
- Required field of study: a field relevant to the role as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience.
