Staff+ Software Engineer, Platform

Overview

Staff+ Software Engineer for Anthropic’s Platform organization, building infrastructure and systems that power reliable product development across internal teams and external users.

What you'll do

• Scope complex, multi-month projects and drive alignment across ambiguous problem spaces.
• Make architectural decisions that shape how Anthropic builds and scales products.
• Build and maintain service infrastructure (service mesh, observability, deployment pipelines, shared libraries).
• Build and maintain cloud portability infrastructure across multiple cloud providers.
• Scale the foundation of the Claude API serving path for performance, reliability, and efficiency.
• Own token management and proxy routing for tool calls and authenticated connectivity.
• Build and run secure sandboxing for untrusted code execution used by Anthropic products.

What you'll need

• Minimum 8 years of practical experience as a backend or platform engineer building scalable distributed systems.
• Strong fundamentals in service-oriented architectures, networking, and systems design.
• Proficiency in Python, Go, Rust, or similar systems languages.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure (GCP, AWS, or Azure) and/or multi-cloud networking.
• Experience with container orchestration (Kubernetes).
• Ability to take full ownership from design through deployment and operations.

Details

• Location preference: NY, SEA, SF, or the Bay Area.
• Hybrid policy: staff expected in one of the offices at least 25% of the time.
• Visa sponsorship is available, but not for every role/candidate.
