Staff Software Engineer, Continuous Integration

Overview

Software Engineer for Anthropic’s Continuous Integration (CI) team in Developer Productivity, building infrastructure and tooling that helps engineers ship code safely and efficiently to production.

What you'll do

• Design and build reliable, scalable CI infrastructure for thousands of daily builds.
• Develop intelligent test selection systems to reduce CI time while maintaining code quality.
• Build and improve incident response automation, including recovery and observability tooling.
• Increase CI reliability with flake detection, quarantine systems, and test state management.
• Support CI tooling and automation that improves developer productivity and reduces operational overhead.

What you'll need

• 10+ years of relevant industry experience building and operating large-scale CI/CD systems.
• Deep experience with CI orchestration tools such as Buildkite, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or similar.
• Experience with container orchestration at scale.
• Strong communication skills and enjoyment of supporting internal partners.
• Passion for reliability and building systems that “never fail the same way twice.”

Nice to have

• Experience with merge queues and branch management at scale.
• Experience with test infrastructure, including intelligent test selection and flake management.
• Experience building CLI tools and developer-facing services and GitHub API/automation.

Details

• Annual compensation range: £325,000 to £390,000 GBP.
• Hybrid policy: expected to be in an office at least 25% of the time.
• Visa sponsorship is supported, with feasibility varying by role and candidate.
• Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education/training/experience.
• Field of study should be relevant to the role.
