Staff Software Engineer, Infrastructure (Distributed Systems)

Overview

Staff Software Engineer for Infrastructure (distributed systems) responsible for scoping and leading complex, multi-month projects that build and operate distributed systems for training, serving, and securing AI models.

What you'll do

• Independently scope and lead complex, multi-month infrastructure projects from ambiguous starts to production systems.
• Make architectural decisions that shape the foundation other engineers build on.
• Drive technical alignment across teams through ambiguous problem spaces.
• Partner with research and product teams to translate infrastructure/compute needs into technical designs.
• Own reliability, scalability, and security as usage and complexity grow.
• Set infrastructure technical strategy and standards.
• Improve operational processes including incident response, postmortems, and on-call rotations.
• Mentor other engineers and raise the technical bar.

What you'll need

• Experience designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems or infrastructure in production.
• Experience independently scoping and delivering complex, ambiguous, multi-month technical projects.
• Experience making architectural decisions other engineers and teams build on.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals and proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, Rust, Go, or Java).
• Experience with modern cloud infrastructure including Kubernetes and infrastructure-as-code on AWS and/or GCP.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and experience driving alignment across teams or stakeholders.
