Staff Software Engineer (Repository)

Overview

Staff Software Engineer responsible for leading architecture and implementation of secure, reliable repository infrastructure, including package registries, APIs, and production services. The role focuses on backend systems in Go and expanding repository support across multiple artifact types.

What you'll do

• Own technical direction for customer-facing registries, APIs, and artifact-serving systems.
• Design, build, and operate high-availability backend services in Go.
• Improve scalability, reliability, observability, and load testing for production systems.
• Drive repository architecture, service boundary, and operational decisions.
• Partner with engineers across the company to support additional artifact types.
• Mentor engineers and raise the standard for design and code review.

What you'll need

• 8+ years building and operating production backend or infrastructure systems.
• Evidence of staff-level ownership and technical leadership.
• Strong Go experience or deep backend systems experience with the ability to ramp quickly in Go.
• Experience with customer-facing infrastructure such as registries, repositories, APIs, or high-scale serving systems.
• Experience deploying and managing production services.
• Experience across application and infrastructure layers, including Terraform or similar infrastructure-as-code tools.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills in a remote environment.

Nice to have

• Experience with package registries, artifact serving, or repository platforms.
• Familiarity with provenance, SBOMs, and trusted artifact distribution.
• Open source experience in tooling, package ecosystems, or developer infrastructure.
• Experience with multi-artifact repository platforms.

Details

• Remote in Canada.
• Base salary: USD 170,000–231,000 yearly.
