Overview
Junior Software Engineers design, build, test, deploy, and maintain modern software applications using foundational software engineering skills and Generative AI and agentic development tools. The role supports software analysis, design, programming, debugging, optimization, application modification, and production support under guidance from senior team members.
What you'll do
- Write, develop, modify, and review quality, testable, and maintainable code across front-end, back-end, API, integration, and data layers under guidance from senior engineers.
- Apply an AI-first engineering approach using AI coding assistants and agentic development tools to improve development speed, code quality, documentation, and troubleshooting.
- Use agentic coding workflows for code generation, refactoring, unit test creation, debugging, technical documentation, code reviews, and systems analysis.
- Write prompts and provide engineering context to AI tools to generate reliable, secure, and maintainable software solutions.
- Validate, review, and refine AI-generated code for correctness, security, performance, maintainability, and alignment with team coding standards.
- Support application and system integration through REST APIs, GraphQL, messaging queues, event-driven architectures, databases, and third-party platforms.
- Assist with data pipelines, batch jobs, and data processing solutions using appropriate frameworks and cloud services.
- Create and maintain unit, integration, and end-to-end tests, including AI-assisted test generation where appropriate.
- Support CI/CD pipelines for automated build, testing, security scanning, packaging, and deployment.
- Package and deploy applications across multiple environments using containers, orchestration platforms, and cloud-native deployment tools.
- Debug issues using logs, metrics, traces, observability platforms, and AI-assisted root cause analysis tools with support from senior team members.
- Monitor application performance, identify bottlenecks, and assist with improvements.
- Participate in code reviews and support quality gates using static analysis, automated testing, security scanning, and AI-assisted review tools.
- Learn and apply secure coding practices, including input validation, authentication, authorization, encryption, secrets management, and secure API design.
- Ensure responsible and compliant AI tool use, including protection of confidential data, intellectual property, regulated information, and customer-sensitive content.
- Maintain technical documentation, implementation guides, and operational support materials.
- Collaborate with product managers, architects, business stakeholders, senior engineers, and end users to understand requirements and contribute to software solutions.
- Support development-effort estimation, project plans, delivery timelines, and release schedules.
- Learn and stay current with Generative AI, agentic software development, cloud engineering, automation, DevSecOps, and modern application architecture.
What you'll need
- 6 months - 2 years of experience in software development, software engineering, or a related technical field.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or any other related filed or an Advanced degree.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Data Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience including bootcamps, certifications, or self-taught experience with demonstrable projects.
- Foundational programming skills in one or more languages such as Java, Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, C#, Go, or similar languages.
- Exposure to or hands-on experience using AI coding assistants and large language models for software development, including Claude, OpenAI models, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, CodeWhisperer, or similar AI coding tools.
- Basic understanding of prompt engineering for code generation, debugging, refactoring, test creation, and documentation.
- Familiarity with agentic coding patterns, including task decomposition, iterative prompting, AI-assisted planning, and autonomous development workflows with human review.
- Exposure to modern frameworks such as React, Angular, Vue, Node.js, Spring Boot, .NET, Django, Flask, FastAPI, or similar technologies.
- Basic understanding of databases such as PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MySQL, MongoDB, or cloud-native data services.
- Familiarity with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
- Exposure to CI/CD and DevOps tools such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes, or Terraform.
- Understanding of software engineering fundamentals including Git, automated testing, debugging, API design, and secure development practices.
- Ability to evaluate AI-generated outputs for accuracy, security, and production readiness with guidance from senior engineers.
Nice to have
- Personal projects, internships, or academic work demonstrating use of AI tools for coding and development.
- Contributions to open-source projects or a portfolio of GitHub repositories showcasing coding skills.
- Experience with agentic development frameworks or AI workflow automation tools.
- Familiarity with microservices architecture, event-driven systems, or distributed computing concepts.
- Experience with Snowflake, Databricks, Apache Spark, or cloud data services.
- Knowledge of Datadog, Splunk, Prometheus, Grafana, or similar observability and monitoring platforms.
- Understanding of Agile methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban.
- Eagerness to use AI tools as a core part of the software development lifecycle, review and validate AI-generated code before production use, apply secure and compliant AI practices, create reusable prompts and workflows, improve productivity through automation, adopt responsible AI coding practices, and evaluate new AI development tools and models.
- Passion for software engineering and eagerness to grow technical skills.
