Tooling specialist (Press tools)

Overview

Tooling Specialist (Press tools) role focused on optimizing production assembly methods and developing/validating press tooling for ABB India–Electrification, Smart Power.

What you'll do

• Optimize production organization assembly methods, processes, and equipment to minimize labor hours while meeting quality, efficiency, cost, and safety goals.
• Oversee development and validation of press tools, molds, gauges, fixtures, and sub-assemblies.
• Review DFM to ensure tooling meets standards for precision, durability, quality, and manufacturability.
• Identify and develop suitable Indian suppliers and coordinate part localization based on engineering drawings.
• Conduct PPAP, inspections, tooling trials, and dimensional/process validation, and close technical issues.
• Manage supplier development project milestones and timelines and provide biweekly management updates.

What you'll need

• Minimum 5–10 years of experience in press tool development and sheet metal component/tooling-related activities.
• Diploma in Tool & Die Making (e.g., NTTF/GTTC/CTTC) or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering with relevant experience.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical requirements.
• Practical experience in 3D solid modelling and AutoCAD.
• Good written and verbal communication for coordinating with suppliers and engineering teams.
• Ability to work with US and international teams across different time zones.
