Advisor / Sr Advisor – Synthetic Molecule Process Chemistry

Overview

Join Lilly’s multidisciplinary team as an Advisor / Sr Advisor – Synthetic Molecule Process Chemistry, providing technical oversight for process development activities at a strategic Indian contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO). Act as the technical bridge between Lilly scientists and the CDMO to advance synthetic drug substance and drug product development.

What you'll do

• Demonstrate learning agility across small molecules, peptides, and oligonucleotides.
• Develop new synthetic routes using modern technologies, including continuous processing and automated reaction screening, and collaborate with the computational chemistry team.
• Apply scientific principles to manufacturing raw materials, intermediates, and drug substances, including the interaction of chemistry and equipment.
• Develop robust processes capable of error-free scale-up to ensure reliable supply of early- and late-phase clinical trial materials.
• Deploy digital tools to enable advanced modelling and seamless digital technology transfer.
• Collaborate to design and analyse experiments, deepen process understanding, and optimize reaction conditions.
• Collaborate with analytical development scientists and manufacturing engineers to translate processes from the bench to pilot plant scale.
• Work with diverse groups across the value chain and in multiple locations.
• Navigate ambiguity at the interface between disciplines and move between scientific challenges.
• Document all work in an appropriate manner.
• Provide coaching and mentoring to peers and other scientists.
• Work as a team and take responsibility with accountability.
• Promote a team culture of scientific excellence, collaboration, safety, and compliance.
• Provide technical oversight of key process development activities performed at a strategic Indian CDMO.
• Review and influence CDMO strategies, ensure alignment with Lilly requirements, escalate risks, and develop mitigation plans.
• Deliver innovative technical solutions through internal and external collaborations.

What you'll need

• Ph.D. in scientific disciplines of Organic Chemistry/Chemistry, with Ph.D./Post Doc in Chemistry focusing more on process chemistry.
• 8+ years of experience.
• Demonstrated learning agility across modalities, including small molecules, peptides, and oligonucleotides.
• Deep technical expertise and training in modern synthetic chemistry.
• A demonstrated track record of original contributions to chemical design and mechanism-based problem solving for synthesis of complex molecules and/or methodology development.
• Ability to learn and apply technical knowledge to meet changing project needs.
• Ability to prioritize multiple activities and handle ambiguity.

Details

• Location: Hyderabad.
• Work hours flexibility is required to accommodate collaboration across multiple time zones.
• Travel: up to 20%, mainly domestic and occasionally international.
