Overview

Anthropic Institute Fellow (Economics & Policy) for 4 months of full-time empirical AI research with mentorship, aiming to produce a public output.

What you'll do

• Design and conduct empirical research on AI’s economic effects using external data sources.
• Develop methodological approaches to study AI’s impact on labor markets, the future of work, and society.
• Analyze the offense–defense balance for AI-enabled cyber and bio capabilities as models scale.
• Measure how model performance increases with custom harnesses.
• Identify market-driven mechanisms to improve societal resilience to anticipated threats from AI systems.
• Identify AI R&D metrics that could serve as early warning signals for recursive self-improvement.

What you'll need

• Fluency in Python programming.
• Availability to work full-time on the Fellows program.
• Work authorization in the US, UK, or Canada (and be located in that country during the program).
• Be located in-country for the program where you have work authorization.

Details

• Program start expected for January 2027 (with some flexibility outside usual cohort timelines).
• Duration: 4 months full-time (possible extension mentioned).
• Shared workspace in London or Berkeley, with openness to remote fellows in the UK, US, or Canada.
• No visa sponsorship for fellows (must independently obtain full-time work authorization).
