Overview

Regional Research Economist, Economic Research, working with governments, academia, industry, and civil society to measure AI’s effects on the economy and develop research-driven policy interventions.

What you'll do

• Collaborate with regional stakeholders to measure and understand AI’s economic effects.
• Contribute to the development and expansion of the Anthropic Economic Index for regionally relevant insights.
• Establish methodologies to measure AI usage, diffusion, and impact across the economy.
• Design empirical research on AI’s economic effects across labor markets, productivity, inequality, and economic trajectories under adoption scenarios.
• Use econometrics, machine learning, and structural estimation, including frontier methods in causal inference.
• Coordinate across technical teams to improve measurement infrastructure and data collection.
• Publish research outputs such as papers, policy briefs, and presentations to stakeholders.

What you'll need

• PhD in Economics.
• Strong empirical research track record combining novel data sources and economic theory.
• Experience working in and with relevant relationships across the region.
• Experience with AI’s impact on the economy (labor market analysis, task transformation, and related areas).
• Technical proficiency in Python, R, and/or SQL for large-scale data analysis.
• Ability to lead research projects from conception to publication.
• Ability to communicate findings to diverse audiences.

Details

• Hybrid policy: expected to be in an office at least 25% of the time.
• Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
