Application Engineer

Overview

The Application Engineer helps customers and the sales team recommend appropriate products based on customer expectations. The role supports 3M Commercial Solutions and Graphics Markets through customer guidance, technical engagement, product development and application support.

What you'll do

• Understand in depth 3M’s offering and use that knowledge to help achieve objectives for the division.
• Meet brand owners, channel partners, and end customers.
• Guide brand owners, channel partners, and end customers with the right product.
• Generate specifications to help customers procure the appropriate material.
• Lead technical engagement with key customers and channel partners.
• Understand market trends.
• Collaborate with the internal team to work on new product ideas, technology and product development.
• Travel domestically.
• Work at customer locations and sites.
• Work in collaboration with 3M employees and channel partners.
• Contribute to a strong Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) culture by following safety policies, identifying hazards, and engaging in continuous improvement.

What you'll need

• A graduate or postgraduate, preferably in Polymer science, Chemistry or Materials Science.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of self-adhesive films, polymer chemistry and formulations.
• Product development and lab testing skills.
• Conversance with the new product commercialization process.
• Strong planning and organization skills.
• Ability to understand technical subject matter or willingness to learn.
• Proficiency with PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and other related software programs.
