Overview
The Associate Sr. Mechanical Engineer executes mechanical subsystem and product design from concept to production, supporting verification, documentation, process development and cross-functional engineering activities.
What you'll do
- Execute mechanical subsystem design under little or no supervision.
- Utilize FMEA, Root Cause Analysis, GD&T, Tolerance Stack Analysis and DFM/DFA to evaluate and mitigate requirement risks early in the design process.
- Ensure designs meet system requirements through proper verification methods.
- Learn established engineering processes, standards, methods and procedures, including ECN, BOM and RFQ.
- Provide technical leadership for cross-functional teams when required.
- Lead design reviews and supplier reviews.
- Develop technical documentation.
- Support product change management and process development or enhancement.
- Provide day-to-day direction and coordination with other employees.
- Build proof-of-concept solutions that are forward-looking to how they could be implemented on a larger scale.
- Communicate technical information to groups within Engineering.
- Present the business value of initiatives to leadership.
- Collaborate with team members to solve and resolve problems.
- Develop design documentation, 3D models/drawings, and instructions for manufacturing and product test requirements.
What you'll need
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
- 4-7 years of relevant experience.
- Ability to work independently or in teams, prioritize own work and meet agreed timelines.
- Strong engineering project management skills.
- Ability to communicate well verbally and in writing with technical and non-technical team members.
- Ability to give direction to other team members.
- Ability to collaborate and work in a team environment.
- Ability to relate to others resourcefully and with flexibility.
- Ability to solve problems and work with others to resolve problems.
- Experience in product design from concept to production.
- Experience utilizing cross-functional processes such as engineering change control.
- Experience in supplier coordination and communication of design inputs.
- Ability to distinguish key issues from peripheral issues.
- Basic understanding of assumptions made in an approximation.
- Ability to generate several alternative solutions and evaluate their feasibility.
Nice to have
- Experience with manufacturing processes such as die casting, investment casting, powdered metal, stampings, injection molded plastics, machining, LPM and rapid prototyping.
- Experience with Creo.
