Job description

Overview

VP-level Solution Architecture role in Barclays' Bank IN technology function, designing and evolving infrastructure, deployment pipelines and Core Banking solutions to support the bank's digital delivery.

What you'll do

  • Design and develop solutions as evolvable products aligned with modern software engineering practices and automated delivery tooling, including identifying and implementing the technologies and platforms.
  • Apply workload placement strategies and maximise cloud capabilities such as elasticity, serverless and containerisation.
  • Build best-practice designs incorporating security principles such as defence in depth and reduction of blast radius, meeting the bank's resiliency expectations.
  • Balance risks and controls to deliver agreed business and technology value, and adopt standardised solutions where they fit.
  • Support operational teams with fault finding and performance issues, leveraging available tooling.
  • Perform solution design impact assessments covering risk, capacity and cost, including project change and ongoing run costs.
  • Develop architecture inputs required for the bank's governance processes, including design artefacts for architecture, privacy, security and records management.
  • Contribute to or set strategy, drive requirements and make recommendations for change; plan resources and budgets, manage policies and processes, and escalate breaches of policy or procedure.
  • Work closely with engineers, QA engineers, UX designers, architects and Scrum Masters to deliver high-quality software, and participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog refinement, reviews and retrospectives.
  • Partner with engineering teams to define scalable, secure and maintainable Android solutions; define architecture, APIs, integrations and cloud-based services.
  • Support release planning and dependency management, ensuring product increments deliver measurable business value.
  • Develop architecture roadmaps supporting modernisation of the Core Banking estate, reducing legacy risk and technical debt, simplifying architecture, improving automation, increasing API enablement, and improving resilience, recoverability, cloud and container capabilities.
  • Assess build vs buy vs reuse vs vendor-platform options and provide clear architecture recommendations.
  • Support incremental modernisation strategies that protect critical banking services, and keep near-term decisions aligned with the longer-term target architecture.
  • Define and assure non-functional requirements covering availability, resilience, recoverability, performance, capacity, scalability, security, maintainability and observability.
  • Assess failure modes and dependencies across Core Banking customer journeys.
  • Define integration patterns between Core Banking platforms and design solutions that minimise blast radius and avoid unnecessary single points of failure.
  • Ensure architecture supports effective monitoring, fault diagnosis and operational support, and that capacity and performance implications are understood before significant production changes.
  • Partner with Engineering and Operations teams to investigate complex performance, availability and integration issues.
  • Act as the architecture interface between business, product, engineering, operations and enterprise technology teams, communicating complex decisions to senior technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Technically challenge vendor proposals, ensure proposed solutions meet enterprise architecture requirements, and influence stakeholders where delivery objectives conflict with long-term strategy or acceptable risk.
  • Provide architecture input into commercial and technology discussions where vendor capability, licensing, infrastructure or product direction affects strategic decisions.

What you'll need

  • Experience with Fiserv in Core Banking and account servicing capabilities, including customer, account, transaction and product integrations.
  • Experience with interfaces between Fiserv-based services and digital channels, payments, cards, data and downstream banking platforms.
  • Experience with OpenText in enterprise content and document-management capabilities supporting banking processes, including document creation, storage, retrieval, archival and records-management integrations.
  • Experience integrating content-management capabilities with customer and operational journeys.
  • Experience with TSYS card-processing and card-servicing capabilities, including account, transaction, authorisation and servicing integrations.
  • Experience with integration between TSYS capabilities and core banking, digital channels, payments and supporting services.

Nice to have

  • Sophisticated analytical thought comparing and selecting complex alternatives, with in-depth interpretative analysis to define problems and develop innovative solutions.
  • Adoption of the outcomes of extensive research in problem-solving processes.
  • Ability to build and maintain trusting relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, using influencing and negotiating skills to achieve outcomes.

Details

  • Location: Bangalore (Bengaluru, Maruthi Onyx - TESCO TSA).
  • People leadership responsibilities may apply; where they do, leaders are expected to demonstrate the LEAD behaviours.
