Overview
Business Analyst II role focused on reporting and analytics to support Mercury, RX's global event registration platform. The role combines data analysis, report validation, forecasting, and investigation of data flowing from registration systems into downstream reporting.
What you'll do
- Translate business questions into reporting requirements, defining measures, fields, filters, business rules, and acceptance criteria while making assumptions and dependencies clear.
- Produce recurring and ad hoc analysis of registrations, purchased products, add-ons, and revenue, separating test activity and discounts from meaningful commercial results.
- Investigate data-quality issues by reconciling records across source systems, data warehouses, and reports; identifying missing data, inconsistent statuses, and refresh delays; and documenting business impact and supporting evidence.
- Validate reports and reporting changes by testing calculations, filters, and outputs against source records and expected business behavior; document discrepancies, work with technical teams to investigate them, support user acceptance testing, and verify agreed fixes.
- Build scenario-based forecasts combining historical registration data, event schedules, and rollout assumptions, with clearly explained methods and limitations.
- Prepare and share approved data extracts for agreed event-support and business-continuity needs, following controlled-access and established data-handling procedures.
- Explain data definitions, timing considerations, and limitations to non-technical stakeholders, with concise conclusions and practical next steps.
- Maintain documentation of reporting logic, mappings, and investigation procedures, and identify ways to reduce recurring issues and manual reporting effort.
What you'll need
- Practical experience in business analysis, reporting analysis, or a similar data-focused role supporting digital products or operational systems.
- Strong spreadsheet skills, including combining datasets, lookups, pivot tables, and reconciling detailed records with summary totals.
- Experience investigating incomplete or inconsistent data and validating evidence before drawing conclusions.
- Ability to define and document reporting requirements, business rules, data mappings, and testable acceptance criteria.
- Understanding of data flows between transactional systems, data warehouses, and dashboards, including refresh schedules and processing delays.
- Experience validating reports or supporting user acceptance testing, with clear documentation of expected results, defects, and retest outcomes.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical findings in practical business terms.
- A structured approach to competing priorities, time-sensitive work, and collaboration across distributed teams.
- Careful handling of customer and commercial data in line with access controls and approved processes.
Nice to have
- SQL for querying, joining, aggregating, and validating data.
- Business intelligence platforms such as Power BI or comparable reporting tools.
- Enterprise data warehouses, ETL processes, or reporting across integrated business systems.
- Digital product analytics, registration funnels, conversion measures, or ecommerce reporting.
- Forecasting and scenario analysis, including communicating assumptions and uncertainty.
- Agile delivery and requirements or issue-tracking tools.
- Event registration, ticketing, badge management, or other time-critical operational environments.
