Data Engineer, Safeguards

Overview

As a Data Engineer on the Safeguards team, you’ll build the data foundations that help monitor models, prevent misuse, and support user well-being at scale.

What you'll do

• Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines for safety monitoring and enforcement workflows.
• Develop and optimize data models and warehousing solutions for analysis of large-scale usage and safety data.
• Build and maintain dashboards and reporting infrastructure for visibility into model behavior and safety outcomes.
• Integrate data from multiple sources into a unified analytical layer.
• Implement data quality frameworks, monitoring, and alerting for safety-critical data reliability.
• Develop self-service data tooling for stakeholders to explore safety data and generate reports.
• Contribute to data governance, including access controls, retention policies, and privacy-compliant handling.

What you'll need

• Proficiency in SQL and Python with hands-on ETL/ELT pipeline building and maintenance.
• Experience with cloud data platforms such as BigQuery, Redshift, Snowflake, or similar.
• Experience with modern data stack tools such as dbt, Airflow, Spark, or similar orchestration/transformation frameworks.
• Ability to build dashboards and data visualizations using tools such as Looker, Tableau, or Metabase.
• Clear communication to translate complex data concepts for technical and non-technical audiences.

Details

• Location-based hybrid policy: expected to be in an office at least 25% of the time.
