Overview
Join the embedded switching software development team as an Engineer II, developing low-level C software for managed switches built on Broadcom chipsets across 10GB to 400GB switching platforms. This entry-level position is intended for recent graduates or early-career engineers interested in embedded systems and network switching technology.
What you'll do
- Implement well-defined switching features in C under senior engineer guidance, including basic L2/L3 protocols.
- Contribute to device driver development for Broadcom switching chips and peripheral components.
- Work on basic network protocol implementations, including STP, VLAN and basic routing protocols.
- Develop unit tests and debug embedded software using JTAG, GDB and hardware debugging tools.
- Fix bugs in existing switching software and perform code reviews with senior team members.
- Create and maintain technical documentation for implemented features and protocols.
- Assist in integrating software with switching hardware platforms across different speed grades.
- Support performance testing and validation of switching features on target hardware.
- Actively learn Broadcom SDK, switching architectures and embedded systems best practices.
What you'll need
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related field.
- 2-4 years of embedded software development experience.
- Strong C programming skills demonstrated through coursework or projects.
- Strong foundation in C programming, pointers, memory management and embedded C practices.
- Basic understanding of embedded systems, real-time operating systems and hardware-software interfaces.
- Fundamental knowledge of Ethernet, TCP/IP and basic switching concepts.
- Familiarity with GCC, Make, debugging tools including GDB, and version control including Git.
- Basic understanding of Linux kernel concepts and system programming.
- Basic knowledge of computer architecture, memory systems and I/O interfaces.
- Willingness to learn switching architectures, ASIC programming and packet processing concepts.
- Interest in network protocols and enterprise switching features.
- Basic understanding of the OSI model and Ethernet fundamentals.
- Good debugging and problem-solving skills.
- No prior Broadcom SDK experience is required; comprehensive training is provided.
