Engineering Manager (Data & Distributed Systems) - Data Platform , Hyderabad

Overview

Lead a team of 2–5 engineers delivering Data & Audience Platform capabilities across data processing, metadata, reliability, governance, and self-service enablement.

What you'll do

• Lead, coach, hire, and develop engineers.
• Own the team backlog, roadmap, and delivery execution.
• Modernize storage, compute, orchestration, ingestion, access, and metadata capabilities.
• Establish SLIs/SLOs, dashboards, alerts, runbooks, incident response, and post-incident learning.
• Improve data lineage, classification, quality, access review, cataloging, and lifecycle management.
• Deliver self-service onboarding, automated access workflows, reusable templates, and platform standards.
• Partner with engineering, product, analytics, security, governance, and business stakeholders.

What you'll need

• 12+ years of professional software or data engineering experience.
• 3+ years directly managing engineers, including hiring, performance management, and career development.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience building and operating large-scale data platforms, distributed systems, or cloud infrastructure.
• Knowledge of batch and stream processing, lakehouse architecture, governance, orchestration, observability, and cost management.
• Experience with technical program delivery, incident management, monitoring, SLOs, runbooks, and RCA/COE practices.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with hands-on depth for design and code reviews.

Nice to have

• Experience with Databricks, Snowflake, Flink, Kafka, Airflow, Iceberg, Spark, Kubernetes, AWS, or similar platforms.
• Experience with metadata, catalog, lineage, governance, or data quality tools.
• Exposure to AI/ML or GenAI platform enablement.
• Experience with data products, semantic layers, data certification, or self-service onboarding.
• Experience in media, streaming, advertising, consumer product, or high-scale digital platforms.
• Experience leading globally distributed teams across India and United States time zones.
