Engineering Manager, Data Platform

Overview

Engineering Manager to lead LaunchDarkly’s Data Platform team, shaping a high-throughput data backbone for real-time and batch data used across key products.

What you'll do

• Lead and develop backend engineers through coaching, feedback, and career growth.
• Own delivery, correctness, and resilience of production Data Platform systems and Tier 0 ingestion pipelines.
• Partner with Product Management and other engineering teams to scope, estimate, and sequence roadmap work with tradeoffs.
• Serve as the primary communicator and point of contact for Data Platform with leadership, partner teams, and customers.
• Drive operational excellence across reliability, observability, cost, incident response, and on-call health.
• Establish team working norms to improve collaboration and reduce silos.
• Participate in hiring to grow the team and raise the engineering bar.

What you'll need

• 8+ years of software engineering experience.
• At least 2 years managing a team of backend or infrastructure engineers.
• Experience owning high-throughput, reliability-critical production systems.
• Strong distributed-systems fundamentals and judgment for technical tradeoffs.
• Proven ability to partner with Product Management to translate goals into engineering plans with reliable estimates.
• Experience coaching and developing engineers, including performance and technical mentorship.
• Programming and tooling familiarity: Go or Python; observability practices and incident response.
