Engineering Manager in Back End - LLM (Gurugram based relocation provided)

Overview

Engineering Manager for Back End (LLM) at Agoda, leading one or more backend engineering teams building and operating scalable platforms and services for machine learning capabilities.

What you'll do

• Stay hands-on by writing and reviewing code, contributing to system design, and coaching engineers.
• Lead efforts for scalable, reliable, fault-tolerant distributed backend systems.
• Set technical direction through architectural decisions and maintaining high design/engineering standards.
• Collaborate with Product, Data Science, and other engineering teams to deliver technology solutions.
• Own systems across the full lifecycle: design, development, deployment, operations, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
• Promote engineering excellence via automation, effective development practices, operational ownership, and data-driven decisions.
• Develop people and teams by supporting career growth and attracting strong talent.

What you'll need

• Strong backend engineering experience building and operating scalable production systems.
• Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Java, Scala, or C#.
• Experience with systems architecture for complex, scalable, fault-tolerant distributed systems.
• Demonstrable experience as a system owner with operational responsibility.
• Experience building and operating backend services, APIs, and platforms at scale.
• Strong DevOps knowledge including automation, CI/CD, observability, and operational excellence.
• Experience leading engineering teams with five or more direct reports.

Nice to have

• Experience working with machine learning systems or production ML applications.
• Familiarity with Large Language Models and AI-enabled products.
• Experience partnering with Data Science teams to deliver production-ready solutions.
• Experience in content, media, image processing, or related technology domains.
• Proficiency in more than one programming language.
