Engineering Manager, Safeguards Review Tooling

Overview

Engineering Manager for Anthropic’s Safeguards Review Tooling team, leading systems that help humans (and Claude) investigate potential harms and take enforcement actions across Anthropic and third-party cloud platforms.

What you'll do

• Lead, grow, and develop an engineering team building investigation, review, and enforcement tooling.
• Own the vision and roadmap for review tooling, including analytics, privacy-compatible data access, and a sandbox.
• Scale review through automation, enabling Claude-assisted workflows while keeping humans in the loop.
• Partner with policy, operations, legal, privacy, and data science teams to turn enforcement needs into reliable systems.
• Ensure tooling evolves with new privacy primitives and data retention commitments.
• Provide clarity for the team and stakeholders in an ambiguous, evolving environment.
• Contribute to engineering-wide initiatives as part of the engineering management community.

What you'll need

• Experience managing software engineering teams, including hiring, coaching, and developing engineers.
• A technical background in full-stack or platform engineering for architecture and design discussions.
• Experience shipping internal tools or platforms with demanding operational users and improving workflows measurably.
• Cross-functional experience with non-engineering partners such as operations, policy, or legal teams.
• Excellent communication skills, including explaining technical tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders.
• Care about the societal impacts of AI and making powerful systems safer.

Details

• Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
• Location-based hybrid policy: expected to be in one of the offices at least 25% of the time.
• Visa sponsorship is available with a note that not every role/candidate can be sponsored.
• Annual compensation range: $405,000–$485,000 USD.
