Engineering Manager, Search

Overview

Engineering Manager to lead Anthropic’s Search Platform team for Claude, spanning indexing, retrieval, ranking, and production serving.

What you'll do

• Lead and grow engineers building the search platform.
• Own the platform strategy and roadmap for Claude’s search needs.
• Improve search quality through evaluation, relevance measurement, regression detection, and ranking improvements.
• Operate the platform at scale while balancing product traffic with research and training demand.
• Help make product decisions for the search experience when needed.
• Drive cross-team collaboration across product, research, and infrastructure.
• Be hands-on with design reviews, incident follow-ups, and relevance deep dives.

What you'll need

• Significant experience managing engineering teams, including hiring and growth through rapid change.
• Direct experience building or operating search systems at scale (indexing, retrieval, ranking, or query serving).
• Enough technical depth to review designs, read code, and work credibly with senior ICs.
• A product mindset and comfort making product calls without a PM.
• Track record running high-scale, latency-sensitive production systems with reliability requirements.
• Strong cross-functional skills aligning product, research, and infrastructure priorities.
• Experience recruiting and closing senior engineers.

Details

• Annual compensation range: $320,000–$405,000 USD.
• Work mode: hybrid; expected in an office at least 25% of the time.
