What you'll do
- Design, develop and improve software using industry-aligned programming languages, frameworks and tools.
- Develop and deliver high-quality software solutions.
- Ensure code is scalable, maintainable and optimized for performance.
- Collaborate with product managers, designers and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
- Collaborate with peers, participate in code reviews and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
- Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and contribute to technology communities.
- Adhere to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data and ensure secure software solutions.
- Implement effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability and reliability.
- Advise and influence decision making, contribute to policy development and take responsibility for operational effectiveness.
- Lead collaborative assignments and guide team members through structured assignments as an individual contributor, or lead a team performing complex tasks if the position has leadership responsibilities.
- Set objectives, coach employees, appraise performance relative to objectives and determine reward outcomes if the position has leadership responsibilities.
- Identify the need for other areas of specialisation and new directions for assignments or projects.
- Consult on complex issues and provide advice to People Leaders on escalated issues.
- Identify ways to mitigate risk, develop policies and procedures, manage risk and strengthen controls.
- Engage in complex analysis of data from multiple internal and external sources to solve problems creatively and effectively.
- Communicate complex information and influence or convince stakeholders to achieve outcomes.
What you'll need
- Experience with back-end technologies including Java, SpringBoot, JPA, JUnit, REST and microservices.
- Experience with test-driven development (TDD).
- Experience with SQL and NoSQL database technologies, including Oracle and Mongo.
- Experience with DevSecOps tools and platforms including PaaS, OpenShift, Kubernetes (K8S), GitLab, JIRA, SonarQube, Prisma and Wiz.
- Experience with Maven or Gradle.
- Working knowledge of message queues such as Apache Kafka and IBM MQ.
- Experience of rapid application development using AI models such as Claude and GitLab Duo.
- Computer Science degree or equivalent understanding of Computer Science, Object Oriented Design and Data Structures.
- Risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking, digital and technology, and job-specific technical skills may be assessed.
Nice to have
- Experience of working in the Payments domain is highly desirable but not mandatory.
