Job description

Overview

Lead the design, build and support of secure, scalable and high-performing infrastructure platforms and products that support applications and data systems, with a focus on reliability, availability, and automation.

What you'll do

  • Build, deliver and maintain high-quality infrastructure solutions to fulfil business requirements, ensuring measurable reliability, performance, availability, and ease of use.
  • Identify appropriate technologies and solutions to meet business, optimisation, and resourcing requirements.
  • Monitor IT infrastructure and system performance to measure, identify, address, and resolve potential issues, vulnerabilities, or outages, using data to drive down mean time to resolution.
  • Develop and implement automated tasks and processes to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention, using software scripting and coding disciplines.
  • Implement secure configuration and measures to protect hardware, software, and data against cyber-attacks, vulnerabilities, and unauthorised access.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, architects, and engineers to define infrastructure requirements, devise solutions, and ensure seamless integration with business objectives.
  • Provide L2/L3 support for the infrastructure and application stack, driving automation, reliability (SRE), and release excellence across environments.
  • Define and implement standards, patterns and development best practices.
  • Drive adoption of modern CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, security controls and release automation.
  • Ensure compliance with enterprise security, risk, governance and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide technical leadership across Terraform, Ansible, Jenkins, Shell script, Datadog, Python, APIs, Docker, containers, ECR, EKS and GitLab.
  • Mentor and coach team members through feedback, technical assistance, performance management and development planning.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, continuous improvement, and engineering excellence; support recruitment, onboarding, and team growth.
  • Champion DevSecOps practices, observability, reliability engineering and operational excellence.
  • Promote knowledge sharing through code reviews, technical discussions, pairing sessions, and documentation.
  • Manage incidents, problems, and changes using ITIL-aligned processes and SLAs (e.g., ServiceNow/Jira).
  • Plan and execute OS patching cycles and maintain compliance with security and audit requirements.
  • Maintain comprehensive runbooks, knowledge base articles, and support documentation.
  • Build, maintain, and optimise CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins, Nexus) to improve release velocity and quality.

What you'll need

  • Experience working within large-scale, complex, or long-lived codebases, with a strong understanding of software architecture, maintainability, and modern engineering practices.
  • Experience balancing technical quality, operational stability, performance, and delivery objectives.
  • Comfortable providing technical guidance, code reviews, and architectural direction.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management, and influencing skills, with excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Experience driving a culture of engineering excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills; collaborative and inclusive leadership style; customer-focused mindset with strong attention to quality.
  • Programming in Python or Java.
  • Hands-on skills in Terraform, Ansible, Jenkins, Shell script, Datadog, Docker, containers, GitLab, Snyk, Qualys, Jira, Confluence, JUnit, Maven, Gradle, and NPM.
  • AWS cloud computing, including EC2, ECR, EKS, S3, CloudFormation and networks; very good understanding and solid hands-on experience with cloud, preferably AWS.
  • Database design and SQL.
  • Operating system knowledge of Windows and Linux, with awareness of AIX.
  • System design and architecture.
  • Experience with OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, token exchange, policy systems, delegated administration, or identity data modelling.
  • Ability to use AI engineering tools to accelerate research, code understanding, prototyping, implementation, and documentation while applying sound engineering judgment.
  • Experience building production services, distributed systems, or shared platform capabilities.
  • Experience designing and implementing APIs, RESTful services, integration contracts, and data or domain models.
  • Experience turning requirements and ambiguous problems into designs, prototypes, and production-ready solutions.
  • Experience with authentication, authorization, and identity management.
  • Ability to communicate technical decisions clearly, collaborate across teams and time zones, and support other engineers through feedback and knowledge sharing.
  • Experience contributing to technical designs and proof of concept work.
  • Strong understanding of containers with hands-on experience in EKS/Docker, and ability to write and deploy Helm charts.
  • Hands-on experience with Blue-Green deployments and a good understanding of other deployment strategies.

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with MCP, agent skills, and other agent integration concepts.
