Instrument engineer

Overview

Plan and control day-to-day maintenance of instruments, fire and gas systems and control systems in line with the production plan, and take part in engineering project management and engineering document preparation.

What you'll do

• Prepare the instrument index from P&IDs, including instrument listings with technical specifications.
• Compare various makes of instruments in detail and communicate with vendors on technical queries.
• Review instrument loop diagrams and perform loop checking.
• Carry out technical bid evaluation and technical recommendation for all instruments and control systems.
• Prepare logic diagrams and field-verify alarms and interlocks.
• Apply knowledge of HAZOP and SIS for instruments.
• Operate and maintain all types of level transmitters, flow transmitters, pressure transmitters, gas detectors and analyzers, control valves, weighing systems, and pH/conductivity analyzers.
• Identify and maintain critical spares for plant operation.
• Lead a team of 5 to 10 technicians and resolve plant issues independently.
• Perform root cause analysis of instrument breakdowns and present suitable solutions to management.
• Commission all instruments and control systems as per OEM guidelines.
• Work on and repair various valve types, including control valves, flush bottom valves, shut-off valves and their actuators (manual, electric and pneumatic).
• Modify and program PLC, SCADA and DCS systems.
• Use the SAP ERP system.
• Work with the CEMS system and its hook-up with GPCB/CPCB.
• Create instrument indexes, I/O schedules, logic diagrams, cable schedules and instrument datasheets using specialized software.
• Handle control system deliverables, such as telecommunication system specifications and system block diagrams.

What you'll need

• Knowledge of PLC, SCADA and DCS.
• Knowledge of SAP ERP system.
• Knowledge of CEMS system and hook-up with GPCB/CPCB.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of PLC, SCADA and DCS programming, preferably Allen Bradley Rockwell Automation.
