Intermediate Backend Engineer, EMEA

Overview

Intermediate Backend Engineer (EMEA) to design, implement, test, and ship backend features and improvements, then follow up in production.

What you'll do

• Take backend features from clarified requirements through delivery and production follow-up.
• Partner with Product Management, Frontend, Infrastructure, and Security to deliver backend code and services.
• Design and implement maintainable, secure, observable, and performant backend code.
• Build APIs, background jobs, integrations, and bounded service functionality with data model changes.
• Add and improve automated test coverage and review others’ code for quality and operational risk.
• Investigate build/test/deployment/runtime failures, address technical debt, and support operations/on-call as needed.
• Use AI in daily work while validating output and understanding limitations.

What you'll need

• Professional experience building and shipping production backend applications.
• Strong programming, API, database, testing, debugging, and performance fundamentals.
• Experience with Ruby/Rails, Go, or other modern backend languages.
• Ability to own features end-to-end while seeking input appropriately.
• Practical judgment around security, reliability, performance, maintainability, and operational risk.
• Strong written communication for a remote, asynchronous environment.
• Practical experience with AI coding tools, including reviewing and correcting generated code.
