Java backend Developer

Overview

Software engineer with Java backend development experience to design, build and optimize backend services and APIs for the Online Remote Update Technology within VW.OS platform development at CARIAD COE, Bangalore.

What you'll do

• Design and implement enterprise-grade, secure, and scalable backend services and APIs.
• Lead architectural decisions for backend systems, promoting best practices and modern patterns.
• Develop robust RESTful and event-driven APIs for reliable system integration.
• Optimize backend systems for high performance, availability, and reliability.
• Champion continuous integration and deployment practices for fast, safe delivery cycles.
• Monitor, measure, and improve system observability, including logging, metrics, and alerting.
• Collaborate closely with product managers, architects, QA, and operations to deliver solutions aligned with business goals.
• Create and maintain clear, comprehensive technical documentation for APIs and system components.
• Own service delivery from design through production, ensuring issues are addressed promptly.
• Mentor and support engineers, sharing knowledge and fostering professional growth.
• Participate in code reviews to maintain high standards and share expertise.
• Respond to production incidents, lead root cause analysis, and drive remediation.
• Identify and implement opportunities for continuous improvement in processes and technology.
• Ensure solutions adhere to internal quality standards and external compliance requirements.
• Communicate effectively with stakeholders, translating technical concepts into business value.

What you'll need

• 2 to 10 years of experience as a Software Engineer with Java Backend Developer experience.
• Microservices architecture (design, development, deployment).
• Java / J2EE.
• Spring Boot, Spring AI.
• Databases: SQL, JPA/Hibernate, Spring Data.
• Build tools: Maven, Gradle.
• Docker.
• Microsoft Azure (cloud).
• GIT.
• Experience in using AI tools for coding.
• Experience in integrating AI models to application through API calls.
• Strong understanding of software development lifecycle.
• Ability to work with complex system architectures and cross-functional teams.
• Technical documentation: writing clear READMEs and API docs.
• Familiarity with general requirements for software development and formal verification standards.
• Structured and solution-oriented mindset.
• Strong communication and documentation skills.
• Ability to work independently and proactively.
• Collaborative attitude, especially in distributed team environments.
• Willingness to take ownership and drive topics forward.
• Excellent English in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding.
