Java Lead Engineer - Vice President - Software Engineering

Overview

Lead the design, development, and delivery of scalable, enterprise-grade reporting and analytics solutions for a greenfield project as a Lead Software Engineer at Vice President level. The role focuses on Java application development and design, full stack development, technical leadership, and finance technology solutions.

What you'll do

• Lead the design, development, and delivery of scalable, enterprise-grade reporting and analytics solutions as part of a greenfield project.
• Drive build-versus-buy evaluation and multiple POCs.
• Architect and implement robust software systems using Java, Angular, and other modern technologies.
• Ensure best practices in SDLC, code quality, and performance.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders, product owners, and cross-functional teams to define requirements, evaluate tools, and deliver solutions aligned with business goals.
• Drive adoption of GenAI, Copilot, and AI-driven development practices for automation, reporting, and developer productivity, including design, code completion, review, and automated test case generation.
• Mentor and lead a high-performing team of engineers.
• Foster a culture of technical excellence, continuous learning, and innovation.
• Manage stakeholder relationships, communicate project status, and proactively address risks and challenges.
• Promote agile methodologies, automated testing, and CI/CD pipelines for efficient and reliable software delivery.
• Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends and champion their adoption where relevant.

What you'll need

• 10-18 years of experience in software engineering, with a strong background in full stack development.
• Java, including Spring Boot and REST APIs, as the primary skill.
• Deep understanding of data structures, algorithms, design patterns, and modern SDLC practices.
• Proven experience building and scaling enterprise-level applications, preferably in cloud environments.
• Proficiency in additional languages and frameworks, including Python, SQL, and databases, and ability to quickly learn new tech stacks as needed.
• Demonstrated experience leveraging GenAI, Copilot, or AI-based tools for software development, automation, or reporting, including automated testing and code review.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
• Experience leading and motivating high-performing teams and managing stakeholder relationships in a global environment.
• Prior experience in finance, investment banking, or related domains.
• Business acumen and ability to drive innovation and business impact through technology.
• Experience with automated testing and testing frameworks.
• At least 6 years' relevant experience would generally be expected to find the skills required for this role.

Nice to have

• Experience with Angular or React as secondary front-end frameworks.
• Familiarity with Power BI, Apache Airflow, OLAP tools, and workflow automation.
• Experience with tool evaluation, POC delivery, and greenfield project leadership.

• The role is part of the FORT Tech team and supports FINANCE Technology, including regulatory and financial reporting, general ledger, profit and loss calculations, securities bookkeeping, budgeting and forecasting, and tax filing.
