Lead Engineer - Target India

Overview

Lead Engineer responsible for designing scalable architecture and delivering reliable, secure and resilient services for Target's growing seller marketplace platform. The role combines hands-on development, technical strategy, team planning, mentoring and improving product stability, performance and observability.

What you'll do

• Design scalable architecture with the best choice of technology.
• Take responsibility for the services and functionalities the team develops.
• Ensure the quality of the team's code and infrastructure standards.
• Perform hands-on development, including complicated tasks.
• Ensure solutions are production ready, deployable, scalable and resilient.
• Plan and deliver the team's work in addition to completing individual work.
• Promote a learning culture through mentoring and coaching.
• Ensure product observability and foster observability across teams.
• Use operational data to improve domain stability and performance.
• Drive monitoring work based on the organization's monitoring philosophy.
• Drive changes to the team's services to achieve stability and performance improvements.
• Ensure product security and foster a security-first mindset across teams.
• Identify software vulnerabilities, create logic to detect malicious behavior, and analyze network or host artifacts.
• Articulate technical strategy, the value of technology, and its impact on the business.
• Provide guidance and cultivate solutions for complex problems across teams.
• Encourage the team to adopt a growth mindset.
• Educate the team about how competitors and technology companies evolve their technologies.
• Anticipate future use cases and guide design decisions that minimize the cost of future changes.
• Evaluate options, define pros and cons with the team, and identify the best option.
• Design, develop and approve end-to-end functionality of a product line, platform or infrastructure.
• Communicate and coordinate with the project team, partners and stakeholders.
• Analyze and optimize systems capacity, performance and operational health.
• Develop solutions to foster data lifecycle management.
• Maintain deep technical knowledge within areas of expertise.
• Stay current with new and evolving technologies through formal training and self-directed education.
• Build highly scalable distributed systems.

What you'll need

• 4 year degree or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years of software development experience with at least one full cycle implementation.
• Experience in Java OR Kotlin.
• Experience with Kotlin functional programming.
• Experience with Micronaut (Reactive).
• Experience with Kafka.
• Experience with NoSQLs including Cassandra, Mongo and Elastic.
• Experience with SQLs including Postgres.
• Experience with Test containers, Spock, Groovy, ELK, Grafana, Jira, GIT and CI/CD.
• Strong domain-specific knowledge regarding Target's technology capabilities and key competitors' products and differentiating features.
• Broad and deep expertise in multiple computer languages and frameworks, including open source.
• Expertise in analysis and optimization of systems capacity, performance and operational health.
• Deep technical knowledge within areas of expertise.
• Experience building highly scalable distributed systems.
