Job description

Overview

The Lead Security Systems Engineer designs, implements, and operates security capabilities that protect Arctic Wolf’s internal environment. This hands-on engineering role builds and integrates security systems across operating systems, cloud platforms, identity, and networked environments, using off-the-shelf technologies, custom automation, scripting, and lightweight engineering.

What you'll do

  • Implement and configure security technologies, including IAM, endpoint, SASE, and vulnerability management.
  • Develop automation and integrations using scripting and APIs to close functional gaps and improve scale.
  • Extend vendor platforms, including Okta, Wiz, and Prisma, to meet internal control requirements.
  • Translate architectural patterns into real-world implementations across endpoint, cloud, identity, and network environments.
  • Own services across their lifecycle: build, operate, optimize, and retire.
  • Improve interoperability between tools to create cohesive security capabilities.
  • Reduce manual processes through automation and reusable engineering patterns.
  • Work closely with IT, infrastructure, and application teams to embed security into systems and workflows.
  • Ensure solutions balance security, usability, and operational efficiency.
  • Provide input into tool selection based on system fit, integration capability, and scalability.
  • Evaluate vendor solutions and validate alignment with internal architecture.

What you'll need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5 to 8 years of experience in security engineering, systems engineering, or infrastructure engineering.
  • Experience deploying and operating security technologies, including IAM, EDR, network security, and cloud security tools.
  • Hands-on experience with Linux system administration.
  • Experience with scripting and automation to support system integration and operational efficiency.
  • Strong understanding of networking and system architecture fundamentals.

Nice to have

  • Experience integrating enterprise platforms such as Okta, cloud security tools, or SASE solutions.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code, such as Terraform.
  • Experience working in cloud-first or SaaS environments.
  • Exposure to Zero Trust or identity-centric security models.
