Overview
Machine Learning Engineer for Amgen’s AI Studio (Applied AI) team, building and deploying governed enterprise AI products that turn business needs into scalable, measurable AI solutions.
What you'll do
- Independently own defined production components within enterprise AI products and automation solutions.
- Define component boundaries, acceptance criteria, non-functional requirements, and support expectations.
- Design and implement maintainable Python, SQL, API, data, model, retrieval, agent-tool, and workflow components.
- Build GenAI, NLP, RAG, and bounded agent components including embeddings, hybrid search, reranking, citations, and recoverable failure behavior.
- Engineer batch or event-driven pipelines with schema validation, lineage/provenance, access control, and consistency checks.
- Release and support components using cloud services, containers, CI/CD, monitoring, rollback, and incident response.
- Apply security, privacy, Responsible AI, validation, auditability, human oversight, and applicable GxP controls.
What you'll need
- Master’s degree OR Bachelor’s degree plus 2 years of Computer Science/IT or related experience.
- Or Associate’s degree plus 6 years of Computer Science/IT or related experience.
- Or high school diploma/GED plus 8 years of Computer Science/IT or related field experience.
- Strong hands-on proficiency in Python and SQL with testing and software-engineering practices.
- Production software and AI/ML system design experience (Python/SQL modules, APIs, background jobs, event flows, observability, source control).
- Experience with classical ML or GenAI/RAG/agents or MLOps/platform engineering with knowledge of adjacent areas.
- Experience with at least one: PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugging Face, scikit-learn, XGBoost, PyMC, or NLP/vision/GNN/causal inference/uncertainty estimation.
