Overview
Manufacturing Engineer 1 within LIGO Manufacturing Engineering, supporting new product pilot production, virtual manufacturing, or high-volume manufacturing production factories. The role oversees manufacturing methods, processes, and operations while addressing technical, quality, production, assembly, and continuous improvement challenges.
What you'll do
- Design, develop, and implement safe and cost-effective simple fixtures and methods of assembly for all phases of manufacturing.
- Perform virtual builds of sub-assemblies and assemblies and define the sequence of operations for pilot builds.
- Define processes and methods for high-volume manufacturing, including operations method sheets, routing, and sequencing.
- Interface with manufacturing teams from the global factory network to address issues concerning assembly sequence, fixtures, and product design.
- Participate actively in idea-generation forums and contribute to process-improvement initiatives.
- Understand Lam products and their manufacturing processes.
- Work collaboratively with build factories across geographies to ensure build readiness and resolve assembly issues.
What you'll need
- B.E. / B. Tech in Mechanical, Production, or Industrial Engineering.
- Minimum 65% aggregate.
- Graduating in 2027 without any backlogs.
- Solid understanding of manufacturing processes and methods.
- Application of Manufacturing Technology, Strength of Materials, and Theory of Machines to address manufacturing challenges.
- Knowledge of machining, welding, molding, sheet-metal fabrication, and casting processes.
- Understanding of Design for Manufacturing and Assembly with an approach to structured problem solving and decision-making.
- Fundamental data analytics and statistical skills.
Nice to have
- Hands-on projects that include prototyping and assembly.
- Advanced manufacturing methods, including Additive Manufacturing and 3D printing, Water jet machining, and Ceramic manufacturing.
- Experience with 3D Modelling and Assembly using any CAD package.
- Use of simulation tools such as Ansys, Nastran, Creo Simulate etc.
- Internship in a manufacturing/assembly set-up.
