MTS 1, Backend Software Engineer

Overview

Backend Software Engineer (MTS 1) to build high-scale advertising and marketing technology platforms for eBay sellers and advertisers.

What you'll do

• Design and build advertising and marketing platform features to help sellers and advertisers grow.
• Develop scalable, highly available applications, APIs, and services.
• Own end-to-end delivery from technical design and architecture to deployment and production support.
• Drive technical decisions and system design to deliver scalable, reliable, maintainable solutions.
• Use AI-assisted development tools across coding, debugging, testing, and code review.
• Collaborate with ML engineers on LLM integrations, recommendation systems, and campaign optimization.
• Mentor team members and support engineering best practices through technical discussions.

What you'll need

• BS/BA in Computer Science (or related) plus 6+ years work experience, or MS with 5+ years relevant experience.
• Strong experience in Java (17+).
• Experience building services with Spring Boot (or similar frameworks).
• Experience building scalable backend systems and RESTful APIs in distributed environments.
• Experience with event-driven architectures and message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar).
• Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases, including schema design and query optimization.
• Experience with Big Data stack tools such as Hadoop, Spark, or Flink.
