MTS 2, Backend Software Engineer

Overview

MTS 2 Backend Software Engineer for eBay’s Advertising and Marketing Technology teams, building high-scale backend services, APIs, and platforms that support sellers and advertisers.

What you'll do

• Design and build advertising and marketing platform features for eBay sellers and advertisers.
• Develop scalable, highly available applications, APIs, and services using Marko, React, Node.js, Java, and Scala.
• Own end-to-end delivery of complex features from technical design through deployment and production support.
• Drive technical decisions and cross-team collaboration for scalable, reliable, maintainable solutions.
• Use AI-assisted development tools for coding, debugging, testing, and code review.
• Collaborate with ML engineers on AI-assisted advertising features such as LLM integrations and recommendation systems.

What you'll need

• 10+ years work experience with a BS/BA in Computer Science or related field (or MS with 10 years relevant experience).
• Strong experience in Java (17+) and building services with Spring Boot or similar frameworks.
• Experience building scalable backend systems and RESTful APIs in distributed environments.
• Experience with event-driven architectures and message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar).
• Experience with relational (Oracle/Postgres/MySQL) and/or NoSQL (Cassandra/MongoDB) databases including schema design and query optimization.
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools like GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or Claude Code.
