Principal Engineer, .NET Core, VP

Overview

Join Rbs as a Principal Engineer at vice president level, designing and engineering software with customer or user experience as the primary objective. You will contribute to architecture, design and engineering centre of excellence activities while improving software engineering capability.

What you'll do

• Create customer outcomes through engineering, innovative solutions and technology designs that are innovative, customer centric, high performance, secure and robust.
• Work with software engineers in the production and prototyping of innovative ideas.
• Engage with domain and enterprise architects to validate and leverage ideas in wider contexts by incorporating relevant architectures.
• Design and develop software with a focus on automating build, test and deployment activities.
• Develop the discipline of software engineering across the business.
• Define, create and provide oversight and governance of engineering and design solutions focused on end-to-end automation, simplification, resilience, security, performance, scalability and reusability.
• Work within a platform or feature team with software engineers to design and engineer complex software, scripts and tools that enable delivery of bank platforms, applications and services.
• Act as a point of contact for solution design considerations.
• Define and develop architecture models and roadmaps of application and software components to meet business and technical requirements.
• Drive common usability across products and domains.
• Design, produce, test and implement working code.
• Apply Agile methods to software development using DevOps techniques.

What you'll need

• Significant experience in software engineering, software or database design and architecture.
• Experience developing software within a DevOps and Agile framework.
• Expert understanding of the latest market trends, technologies and tools.
• Significant and demonstrable experience implementing programming best practice, especially around scalability, automation, virtualisation, optimisation, availability and performance.
• 10 or more years of experience in Architecture and Design, including Microservices, Event-Driven Architecture, and enterprise application development.
• Strong hands-on expertise in .NET Core, Angular, and database technologies.
• Strong understanding of Agentic AI, including LLMs, AI Agents, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), Prompt Engineering, and AI coding tools.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and technical leadership skills.
• Proven experience working in large-scale enterprise environments and leading complex technology initiatives.
