Overview
As a Principal Engineer in Target Marketplace Technology, you set the strategy for software development and infrastructure engineering and lead foundational architecture across multiple portfolios.
What you'll do
- Provide technical leadership to resolve complex business challenges by assessing viability, applicability, and cost implications via prototypes/POCs.
- Lead architecture and engineering of production-grade Marketplace capabilities across organizational and platform boundaries.
- Modernize Marketplace workflows by creating abstractions, resilient contracts, and scalable patterns.
- Design and build platform APIs and services with focus on scalability, availability, performance, resilience, security, and operability.
- Apply AI to accelerate engineering outcomes and help establish AI-native approaches.
- Collaborate with technical staff, product partners, and Enterprise Architecture teams to set technical direction and manage standards/decisions.
- Provide technical leadership, coaching, and participate in selecting technical talent.
What you'll need
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical field (required).
- 12+ years of experience in technology development or services in a product-led technology environment (ideally).
- 4+ years of experience in strategic planning and setting technical direction.
- Experience leading architecture evolution and raising technical maturity for systems of comparable scale.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, platform/API design, and data/integration patterns.
- Deep hands-on engineering experience with modern JVM technologies including Kotlin with Micronaut and Java with Spring Boot.
- Proficiency with SQL/NoSQL data stores, APIs, containers, Kubernetes, and cloud technologies.
Nice to have
- Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field (preferred).
- Retail or marketplace experience (strongly preferred).
- Demonstrated success using AI-enabled engineering practices and building AI-native systems.
