Principal Product Manager, Data & AI Platforms ( Hybrid in Bangalore )

Overview

Serve as a visionary leader for Smartsheet’s foundational data ecosystem, treating data and AI infrastructure as a product aligned with business and advanced AI objectives. Drive the strategic direction, execution, governance, quality, scalability, and adoption of the data and AI platform.

What you'll do

• Lead alignment of data governance and AI-driven use cases across Engineering, Product, and Business organizations.
• Manage inbound product management, including requirements gathering and strategic roadmap definition.
• Manage outbound product management, including internal and external evangelism, community engagement, and customer feedback loops.
• Define and drive the execution roadmap for data platform features, AI capabilities, data ingestion and onboarding, and foundational data vision initiatives.
• Own the business-stakeholder perspective for data quality and governance.
• Provide detailed requirements with clear, measurable acceptance criteria.
• Partner with cross-functional executive leaders to inform platform roadmaps and align data strategy with product and business platform goals.
• Represent the data and AI platform’s capabilities internally and externally.
• Offer informal leadership and mentorship to Engineering and Product team members.
• Evangelize and implement a Data as a Product mindset.
• Partner with AI and Engineering teams to integrate AI-driven use cases into the core data fabric.
• Guide the technical evolution of Smartsheet’s data architecture.
• Define and manage the semantic layer and data integrity practices.
• Establish and automate data governance standards, including metadata management and privacy compliance.

What you'll need

• 8+ years of experience in Product Management, with a significant and proven focus on AI and data infrastructure, core backend platforms, or high-scale technical SaaS products.
• Proven track record of owning and successfully driving execution roadmaps for critical, scalable, and reliable data systems.
• Extensive and current understanding of agentic frameworks, transformer architectures, prompt engineering, RAG, fine-tuning techniques, vector databases, and embedding strategies.
• Deep familiarity with leading cloud data platforms such as Databricks and Snowflake.
• Knowledge of Dimensional Modeling and Data Vault 2.0 (DV2.0).
• Experience with Medallion Architecture and contemporary Data Integrity practices.
• Exceptional ability to translate complex technical debt or architectural needs into clear business value, actionable initiatives, and precise acceptance criteria for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to treat internal developers, analysts, and external partners as customers, using research and data to identify and remove friction in the data consumption and contribution journey.
• High-level understanding of data governance, semantic impact, and data modeling.
• Ability to lead and navigate complex architectural discussions with senior engineering teams.
