Principal Software Engineer, Frontend - Design Systems

Overview

Principal Software Engineer (Frontend) leading the technical direction for HubSpot’s Trellis design system and component library.

What you'll do

• Drive the evolution of the Trellis design system during HubSpot’s 2026 UI modernization.
• Build and expose a component library with high visual bar, performance, consistency, and intentional defaults.
• Define an accessibility capability model for Trellis controls, toggles, and patterns.
• Develop internal tooling and migration tooling to evolve Trellis at scale (including codemods and automated refactoring pipelines).
• Make practical decisions on the component library API interface and abstractions for engineers and designers.
• Leverage coding agents to ship production code and lead initiatives from idea to rollout.
• Mentor Staff and Senior engineers and drive frontend craft thought leadership.

What you'll need

• 14+ years of software engineering experience.
• Deep expertise in React, TypeScript, and modern JavaScript frameworks.
• Experience with component libraries and tooling using BaseUI and StyleX.
• Experience with theme deployment infrastructure leveraging Cloudflare Workers.
• Experience developing and shipping a production design system used at scale.
• Hands-on builder mindset including writing, debugging, reviewing, and shipping.
• Fluency with AI coding agents.

• Work location: Remote - USA (requires regional HubSpot office attendance for in-person onboarding).
• Compensation (annual cash): $266,200—$425,900 USD.
