Overview

Staff Software Engineer for Claude Design, a frontend-leaning role building real-time visual collaboration and AI-driven design generation experiences.

What you'll do

• Build and ship core Claude Design surfaces including the design canvas, real-time editing, inline comments, and live adjustment controls.
• Collaborate with research teams to turn generation capabilities into intuitive, high-craft design experiences.
• Collect feedback from designers, internal test users, and external partners to iterate and validate product concepts.
• Set technical direction for difficult frontend problems such as editor/canvas architecture, real-time collaboration, and design-system inference.
• Design and run experiments to test product hypotheses, including user prototype tests and generation-quality evaluations.
• Own the product quality bar with focus on latency, responsiveness, and reliability.
• Strengthen the handoff to Claude Code so designs translate cleanly into production, and feed insights back to research.

What you'll need

• 8+ years of experience building full-stack applications with deep frontend strength.
• A track record of zero-to-one work in startup or startup-like environments.
• Experience setting technical direction and mentoring engineers while staying hands-on in the code.
• Strong design sensibility and a high bar for craft and interaction/polish.
• Technical skills across modern web stacks including React, TypeScript, Node.js, Python, Go (etc.).
• Comfort shipping quickly in a fast-moving environment where priorities shift.
• User-centric approach with experience validating ideas with actual users before over-investing.
