Software Engineer, Research Tools

Overview

Software Engineer for Anthropic’s Research Tools team, building infrastructure and applications that help researchers run experiments, iterate quickly, and extract insights from frontier AI systems.

What you'll do

• Build and maintain full-stack applications and infrastructure used daily by researchers.
• Work with research teams to understand workflows, pain points, and requirements, then translate them into technical solutions.
• Design user-facing interfaces and abstractions to make complex research tasks efficient.
• Create reusable platforms and tools to accelerate development of new research applications.
• Rapidly prototype and iterate on solutions using user feedback and real-world usage.
• Own product areas end-to-end, from user needs through design, implementation, and iteration.
• Help with technical strategy and architectural decisions for research tooling; mentor other engineers.

What you'll need

• 5+ years of software engineering experience with a focus on full-stack development.
• Ability to rapidly iterate and ship from concept to working prototype.
• Experience building tools/platforms/infrastructure for technical users.
• High agency and independence in ambiguous environments.
• Ability to quickly develop deep understanding of complex technical domains.
• Proficiency with modern web technologies such as React, TypeScript, and Python.
• Track record building user-facing applications that are used and valued by target users.
• Effective communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Details

• Hybrid policy: expected to be in an office at least 25% of the time.

• Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education/training/experience.
