Overview
As a Product Software Engineer, you will design, implement, and operate innovative products and features for Disney’s high-performance, distributed, microservice-based digital advertising platform, including the Real-time Ad Exchange (DRAX).
What you'll do
- Design, build, and support scalable microservices.
- Collaborate with product and engineering peers to deliver features that enhance user-centric advertising.
- Translate user stories into actionable engineering tasks with ownership from development through deployment.
- Support teammates through code reviews, design reviews, and documentation.
- Improve system observability by implementing metrics, monitoring, and alerting solutions.
- Participate in on-call rotations as part of the commitment to operational excellence.
- Understand and use automated tools (AI) while adhering to company policy.
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners and engineering teams on product and feature design and implementation.
- Provide peer mentoring.
What you'll need
- 1+ years of hands-on software engineering experience.
- Proficiency with Java and related frameworks, including Spring Boot and ORMs.
- Strong background in relational databases, including MySQL and Postgres, with schema and query design.
- Experience working with RESTful APIs, microservices, and distributed systems.
- Strong foundation in computer science principles, including data structures and algorithms.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Understanding of micro-service encapsulation and loose coupling, and why they are important.
- Understanding of how to define technical and operational metrics to measure system health and manage risk.
- A pragmatic approach to solving engineering challenges at scale.
- A passion for building and owning mission-critical systems.
- A growth mindset, with a willingness to learn in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- A commitment and desire to effectively communicate and collaborate across teams and systems.
Nice to have
- Experience in ad tech.
- Experience with programmatic advertising or real-time bidding platforms.
- Experience with Spring Boot and related Spring projects.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS.
- Experience with modern DevOps tools such as Terraform, Docker, and Kubernetes.
- Experience with data streaming mechanisms such as Apache Kafka, AWS Kinesis, and/or SNS/SQS.
