Project Engineering Director HVDC

Overview

Leads the end-to-end technical delivery of large-scale HVDC projects, covering engineering, design, testing, commissioning, and site acceptance. Manages multidisciplinary engineering teams and serves as the primary technical interface for customers and project partners.

What you'll do

• Lead the total engineering scope from contract inception through commissioning and site acceptance testing.
• Define technical execution strategies, design reviews, and engineering document management.
• Oversee design verification, validation, standards compliance, and grid code compliance.
• Coordinate interfaces across primary equipment, secondary systems, control, protection, and converter technology.
• Identify technical risks and lead recovery plans for engineering and commissioning challenges.
• Lead and mentor geographically dispersed systems, design, and commissioning engineers.

What you'll need

• 15+ years of professional experience in large-scale power system engineering.
• Professional experience specifically in HVDC technology, FACTS, or high-voltage substations.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Experience leading major engineering projects and multidisciplinary technical teams.
• Experience interfacing with utility or transmission system operator customers.
• Knowledge of HVDC converter stations, control systems, and power electronics.

Nice to have

• Power systems focus in an Electrical Engineering degree.
• Experience with EPC delivery models and multi-party consortium agreements.
• Understanding of grid codes, dynamic system studies, and commissioning procedures.
• Experience in a global matrix organization.
• Professional Engineering or Chartered Engineer status.
