Senior Associate, Specialist, Application Developer, Consumer Banking Group Technology

Overview

Build and maintain Java/Spring-based backend applications for the Consumer Banking Group Technology team, supporting the Bank's operational processes and banking delivery channels.

What you'll do

• Design, develop and maintain Java/Spring-based applications, including Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Data JPA, RESTful APIs and event-driven architectures.
• Build and operate microservices, including service decomposition, resilience patterns, scalability and observability.
• Apply object-oriented analysis and design, design patterns, SOLID principles and clean architecture practices.
• Optimize relational databases, SQL queries, indexing strategies and performance.
• Practice test-driven development and automated testing using JUnit, Mockito, Spring Test, Karate and Cucumber (BDD).
• Work with SDLC and DevOps tools including Git/Bitbucket, Maven/Gradle, Jenkins, SonarQube, Nexus and JIRA.
• Use Generative AI-powered development tools such as Gemini CLI, Claude Code and Claude CLI to improve engineering productivity and code quality, including code generation, unit test creation, API documentation, code review assistance, root cause analysis and performance recommendations.
• Validate AI-generated code and apply responsible AI-assisted development practices, including security and compliance reviews and maintaining code quality and governance standards.

What you'll need

• Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, computational complexity and problem solving.
• Excellent working knowledge of Java (17+), including concurrency and multithreading, the Collections Framework, JVM internals, performance optimization and functional programming concepts.
• Hands-on experience designing, developing and maintaining Java/Spring-based applications.
• Proven experience building and operating microservices architectures.
• Strong understanding of object-oriented analysis and design, common design patterns, SOLID principles and clean architecture practices.
• Excellent knowledge of relational databases, SQL optimization, query tuning, indexing strategies and performance troubleshooting.
• Experience with test-driven development and automated testing frameworks, including JUnit, Mockito, Spring Test, Karate and Cucumber (BDD).
• Proficiency with modern SDLC and DevOps tools, including Git/Bitbucket, Maven/Gradle, Jenkins, SonarQube, Nexus and JIRA.
• Experience using Generative AI-powered software development tools to improve engineering productivity and code quality.
• Understanding of responsible AI-assisted development practices, including validating AI-generated code, security and compliance reviews, prompt engineering for software development, and maintaining code quality, maintainability and governance standards.
• Minimum of 4+ years of hands-on experience in software development, with strong backend engineering expertise.
• Experience in banking, payments, FinTech or high-volume transaction processing systems.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and cloud-native application development.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across distributed teams and stakeholders.
• Ability to work effectively in dynamic, fast-paced environments and adapt quickly to evolving business and technology requirements.
• Strong automation and scripting capabilities.

Nice to have

• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools such as ELK.
• Contributions to engineering productivity initiatives, developer platforms or AI-driven development practices.
