Senior Backend Engineer (L5) -Payments

Overview

Senior Backend Engineer (L5) for OpenFX’s Payments team, serving as a senior-most hands-on technical leader across cross-border payment orchestration and regulated controls.

What you'll do

• Set the technical direction for payment orchestration, corridor/partner integrations, FX and quoting, and settlement confirmation.
• Design corridor expansion architecture to make new corridor launches configuration-driven and repeatable.
• Lead regulated control engineering for safeguarding flows and transaction monitoring pipelines with audit trails.
• Define standards for money-path code such as idempotency, exactly-once effects, consistency guarantees, safe retries, and backward-compatible APIs.
• Improve resilience against partners via degraded-mode behavior, failover/routing, cut-off handling, and reconciliation.
• Own reliability and observability for payment flows and lead incident response for stuck payments or partner outages.

What you'll need

• Significant experience as a senior or staff-level backend engineer with a track record owning complex production systems.
• Experience building or operating payment systems in production, including orchestration, partner integrations, or payment lifecycle systems.
• Experience integrating external banking/payment/FX partners, including sandbox-vs-production drift and credential churn.
• Judgment on correctness under failure (retries, idempotency, exactly-once effects, and safe handling of critical data).
• Deep expertise in distributed systems and understanding of reliability/performance/scalability trade-offs.
• Fluency in a modern TypeScript/Node backend stack and cloud infrastructure.
