Senior Engineer - Over Head Lines

Overview

Senior Engineer responsible for overhead transmission line design and engineering leadership within Arcadis’ Resilience Global Business Area.

What you'll do

• Design transmission lines rated 400kV and above.
• Resolve key issues and handle execution challenges for transmission lines, foundations and civil erection works rated 400kV and above.
• Perform structural analysis and design of lattice towers and poles made of steel and wood.
• Prepare plan and profile drawings and perform conductor sag and tension analysis.
• Develop design criteria for transmission line design.
• Create bills of materials and engineering estimates.
• Provide technical leadership, direction and support to the design team.
• Plan, organize, estimate, schedule and monitor work activities.
• Participate in regular meetings and correspond with clients.
• Prepare detailed engineering and lead the engineering effort for projects.
• Provide technical support and manage project tasks and responsibilities against agreed budget, quality and timeframe targets.
• Deliver documented designs that meet client objectives and Arcadis’ quality system requirements.
• Identify competency gaps, develop the technical competency of the team and ensure relevant international standards and engineering knowledge are applied.
• Conduct internal reviews and quality checks of engineering drawings and design calculations.
• Lead interdisciplinary coordination as required for projects.
• Understand project scope and changes in scope.
• Record man-hour charges accurately in weekly timesheets and ensure project and non-project charges are correct.
• Manage projects, resource allocation, quality assurance and client feedback.
• Identify opportunities and implement re-engineering strategies to maximize the profitability of design components.
• Pursue new opportunities and identify and document scope, schedule, budget and exclusions.
• Liaise with Arcadis lead office representatives and other consultants as appropriate.
• Gain experience and proficiency in Arcadis’ systems and procedures.
• Become familiar and compliant with health and safety regulations and guidelines.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities relevant to the role as required from time to time.

What you'll need

• At least 7 years of experience in overhead line design.
• A Bachelor’s or postgraduate degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering from a recognized university.
• Experience in transmission line designs rated 400kV and above.
• Depth and breadth of experience in power delivery facilities including overhead transmission distribution, underground transmission distribution, renewable power integration and Smart Grid.
• Excellent English written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent mathematical skills applied in engineering calculations.
• Organizational skills and a proactive approach to project management.
• Active development of technical knowledge and new emerging technology through regular training.
• Experience with PLS CADD, PLS TOWER, PLS POLE, Staad Pro, TEDDS or other similar software tools.

Nice to have

• Experience in a consulting environment.
• Consulting experience in overhead lines in the US, UK or Australia region.
• Exposure to design codes and standards of National Grid UK and relevant Euro codes and Australia codes for transmission line designs.
