Senior Manager, Software Engineering, ITC

Overview

Lead Near-Realtime teams within Nike's Data Streaming Platform area as part of AI, Platform Engineering & DevX. Build and support foundational, cloud-native data integration and orchestration platforms that consume fast-moving streams and support data engineers and data scientists.

What you'll do

• Build and deliver modern foundational platforms that provide data engineering orchestration capabilities and modernize the enterprise-level data integration landscape.
• Drive your team to establish standard methodologies, define success and develop critical metrics to continuously evolve feature delivery and scale production operations.
• Partner and engage with multiple data engineering squads and their leadership to align on platform-centric roadmaps and requirements that support thousands of data engineers and data scientists.
• Work closely with engineering leadership, product leadership, architects and program to develop and contribute to foundational platform roadmaps.
• Partner with Principal Engineers and Principal Architects to develop tools and frameworks that improve the security, reliability, maintainability, availability, scalability, self-serviceability and performance of the platform foundation.
• Set technical direction when requirements and technical direction are unclear, measure results and adjust.
• Drive or help break down technical work during sprint planning and ensure product and technical features are delivered to specification and on time.
• Ensure solutions are designed and developed using a scalable and resilient cloud-native architecture.
• Coach, mentor, grow, groom and hire best-in-class engineering talent.
• Spend 60% of your time on technology and 40% on management.

What you'll need

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field.
• 13-15 years of related experience.
• Strong technical understanding of Apache Kafka, Confluent Kafka and Apache NiFi.
• At least 5-7 years of experience in people management leading multiple teams globally.
• Detailed understanding and experience in Docker, Kubernetes/EKS and ECS.
• Good understanding and experience with DevOps practices and technology stacks including Terraform, Jenkins, Puppet and GitHub.
• Good hands-on working experience in the AWS ecosystem.
• Experience with API-first architecture design and distributed systems, including microservices and virtualization.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure for large-scale data warehouses, data lakes and data fabric.
• Strong communication, ability to influence, ability to solve complex problems and leadership ability while being a team player.
• High emotional intelligence with the ability to bring diverse groups together to solve common goals.
• Ability to provide analysis and estimation of the strategic and financial value of new products and features.
• Pragmatic mindset focused on delivery and customer value through continuous delivery of resilient and scalable systems.
• Expert knowledge of the business, technology standards, managing people and projects.
• Readiness and motivation to manage a sizeable group or team of IT professionals.

Nice to have

• Experience managing a community of practice consisting of streaming developer and platform engineers responsible for facilitating real-time data streaming using Kafka and NiFi.
